This SimonsSays finds the writer a bit warmer but in boots and a raincoat instead of took, winter coat and gloves. Who would have thought that those few days circled on the calendar that have not included warmth but rather liquid sunshine.
Every year, I make time to assist the hunger fighting mission of Taste of the NFL (#kickhunger). Our GameON! Team coordinates and disseminates video and social media as TNFL raises lots of money to fight hunger and help food banks in every NFL city.
It’s what we need to do to help. I can’t even imagine my baby girl going to bed hungry or wondering when she might eat again. Believe it or not, too many Americans have that concern. So, our team rolls in to assist and spread the word from the top of Camelback Mountain and Squaw Peak here in the Valley of the Sun.

Look whose back?!
Nice to get to Phoenix and see the Suns getting some love again. This is a good basketball town and I’ve seen some of the NBA’s best in Suns gear. From VanArsdale to KJ, Chambers to Sir Charles and so many in between. These new Suns are rising and will be players for some time.
And speaking of “love”, I’m bummed to miss the return of Mike Miller Saturday with the Cavs! I laughed as the now viral Wolves ad promoting Saturday’s game dissed one Kevin Love (all in fun of course). By now, if you’ve read this before, you know how we feel about the PrimaDonna wearing #0. Whatever. The Wolves got the better end of the deal and will build on that trade for years. On the other hand, I’m with many who believe he’ll fly the Cleveland coupe for free agency at years end. If you are going Saturday, be Minnesota nice. It’s just good karma.
Bucks ON the Run?!
Saw this note in my e-mail and couldn’t wait to comment. Darren in Tomah, WI writes “I went to a Bucks game last week and all anyone is talking about is how the Bucks are moving out of Milwaukee.
Darren, thanks for the note and boy oh boy, does this touch a nerve with me after my hometown Sonics were allowed to be relocated to OKC. I think the Bucks are safe in Milwaukee. When Governor Walker comes out to voice his support for a new arena, the team is safe. Walker has the keys to that car and from what I’ve been able to gather, they already have a game plan and the team is not threatening to bolt.
The Bucks belong there. From the days of Jon McGlocklin to Lew Alcindor (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) to the Big O and others, this is a franchise on the uptick too.
Great question, solid concern but no worries. The Bucks stop there.
Rep’N the Wolves @ ASG?!
I’m here surrounded by NFL Super Bowl activities but I remember being here for the NBA All Star game, at then, America West Arena. The NBA’s showcase mid-season game is right around the corner and the Wolves will be represented well. Wolves Zach LaVine , Andrew Wiggins, Gorgui Dieng and Shabazz Muhammad will represent the Wolves in the 2015 Rising Stars Challenge. Dieng and Wiggins will team up on the World Team, while LaVine and Muhammad will suit up for the U.S. Team.
Talk about bright futures. The Wolves are now the first team in league history to have four players participate since the event’s inception in 1994 back when it was the Rookie Challenge.
Wiggins is becoming the player everyone expected. Mr. Number 1 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft leads all NBA rookies in scoring (15.2 ppg) and ranks 3rd in steals (1.11 spg) and 5th in rebounding (4.3 rpg). Dieng leads all eligible World players in rebounds (8.6 rpg) while ranking 2nd in blocks (1.8 bpg). Jumpin’ Zach averages 8 a game with 3.4 assists and 22.8 minutes in 41 games (21 starts). And Shabazz leads all eligible U.S. players in points/48 (28.3) while ranking 3rd in both scoring (13.7 ppg) and field goal percentage (48.8%).
This season the Rising Stars Challenge at NBA All-Star 2015 in New York City will feature a new format that pits first- and second-year NBA players from the United States against first- and second-year NBA players from around the world. The NBA’s annual showcase of premier first- and second-year players is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 13, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
