How’s your holiday shopping going? I’m, as always, behind with a grand game plan to catch up this weekend. My X’s and O’s are etched over a white board. I’m hoping for a strong 4th quarter. Look out…it’s Santa Simons in business!
In actuality, I see all the scurrying about to get this or that bought. The numerous and voluminous ad’s for the holiday shopping season.
And with all the hectic and fast paced seasonal goings-on, this hoopaholic found his present at Target Center during the Wolves-OKC game.
While watching the former Seattle Super Sonics dispatch the Wolves, I figured it out. All I want for Christmas is a playoff run. Yep. Nothing special. Just a season of more highs than lows, winning streaks of 4 and 5, perhaps a loss then another run of 6 to 8 games and so on and so forth.
I’m not asking for the Moon although some fans who read this will insist it’s that big ball and Mars too that I want.
I would love, gift wrapped please, a season of fewer injuries and grooming young players with skilled veterans. I’ll take my stocking with fast breaks and A-Wiggins slam dunks. Give me a lay-away certificate that wipes clean all losing streaks, I’d be elated.
Back in the day, when bad things piled up around him, I remember my Grandpa Ray Z (rest his soul) saying this or that “was getting on his last nerve”. I never really understood what that meant to him but I can imagine the fate delivered by the basketball God’s to this Wolves team might fit the bill. I’m at my last nerve when it comes to injuries and band-aid lineups.
Too many good people and great basketball players get caught up in all that bad stuff that can blanket a basketball team. That needs to change in 2015. The people to make that happen are here. And I’m using my Christmas wish to will a turnaround.
You see, there’s nothing like a winning team. Vikings fans remember it well in 2011.Even though it didn’t with a Super Bowl “W”, winning is SO much better than losing. It makes even skeptics have a spring in their step. The last four years notwithstanding, Twins fans had a heck of a run.
Wolves fans have to work to remember their last playoff run. But trust me, post season hoops is the real thing. Downtown in the spring, NBA playoff games happening at the same time the Twins are working over at Target Field and again, just the civic excitement that comes with supporting a winning team. There’s nothing like it.
I’m hoping Santa sees that I’ve been good this year. He’s worked miracles before and I’m truly not asking for Pluto but rather just a playoff run. I’m not hoping for Venus but rather a bunch of additional victories.
The Wolves are due. Already, their season has been sidetracked by injuries and struggles. They are not the only NBA team confronted by this situation but fans are growing restless. Fans that love the NBA game and return year after year with hope. Hope, this season, has been severely hammered by the basketball God’s and I want Santa to step in.
If anyone can get it done it’s the reigning Christmas MVP. No one puts a stamp on giving like the Jolly Round mound of Kringle. I’m yearning for Santa to go one on one with the Goal tending Grinch. Take that and in the end, give the Wolves that basketball dream they so desire.
Winning fixes a lot of things. Let’s face it, it’s much easier to find a way to lose than to win. But as I sat watching the Wolves work and work and work to only come up short against the Thunder, I was scribbling my note to Santa.
I’m fine being the only adult dropping a letter to Santa. I googled his North Pole address, I liked him on Facebook and found him on twitter. Santa’s serious on Instagram and a North Pole powerhouse on Pinterest. I’m locked in and working my festive full court press in getting Ol’ Saint Nick to sprinkle some magic.
We have the power to make a lot of things happen. It starts with a wish and its how we cultivate that wish when things happen. With this the time to dream and hope, to wish and pray for nothing but the best, it’s one of the things I’m hoping will happen.
Outside of basketball, there’s been havoc, tension and in many ways, a lot of serious problems exposed around our world in 2014. My tongue-in- cheek basketball wish list not one of them. Let’s hope the spirit of the season carries over to bring more peace and understanding, patience and more caring to all of us.
I’m hoping Santa has room in his sleigh for a playoff ticket or two for our T’Wolves. I just have a feeling that sooner than later it’s gonna’ be there. It’s about hope. And remember, don’t be a “casual” fan. Stay on board. Keep the faith and keep your GameON! Happy holidays to you all! More to come!

This is cool! The Wolves have launched a new mobile app that gives fans instant access to exclusive Wolves content and live game coverage. Fans can download the free app on iOS and Android devices by visiting Timberwolves.com/mobile.
The official Timberwolves app offers fans the ability to follow live game content including the score, stats, shot charts and related social media conversations via the Game Tracker. The app also allows fans to seamlessly check the team’s schedule, roster and conference standings. Fans on the go can stay engaged and updated with the team by accessing Wolves articles, photo galleries and original videos through the app. New features including ticket sales integrations, fan experience modules, exclusive membership content and more will be added to the app in the near future. The app is another step the Wolves have taken to accommodate the continued growth of mobile web use. Last season, the Wolves launched their re-designed website that is optimized for mobile viewing.
Nice work Thad-A-Claus!
Timberwolves forward Thaddeus Young brought his Young for Youth Foundation’s annual Thad-A-Claus initiative to the Twin Cities this holiday season. Young along with the Young for Youth Foundation, the Timberwolves FastBreak Foundation and SPIRE Credit Union delivered 300 donated toys to deserving children at three locations in Minneapolis. The Thad-A-Claus caravan stops include a children’s hospital and a youth homeless shelter.
