Vikings and U of MN Agree to Stadium Use

University of Minnesota and Minnesota Vikings reach preliminary agreement for Vikings' use of TCF Bank Stadium
MINNEAPOLIS / ST. PAUL (05/10/2012) —The University of Minnesota and the Minnesota Vikings have agreed to a Letter of Intent which allows the Vikings’ use of TCF Bank Stadium during potential construction at the current Metrodome site of a new stadium for the National Football League franchise. Subject to Board of Regents approval at its meeting tomorrow, university President Eric Kaler may sign the Letter of Intent in the next few days.

The Letter of Intent provides that the Vikings will reimburse the university for all changes they require for TCF Bank Stadium, and all non-game day expenses and game-day operational expenses related to the franchise’s use of the facility. In addition, the Vikings will pay rent to the university and share a portion of additional concessions and sponsorship revenues.

Minnesota Lynx Game Information

The Minnesota Lynx today announced the team’s exhibition schedule for the 2012 WNBA season, which includes a game at the University of Minnesota’s Sports Pavilion on Tuesday, May 15 at 12 p.m. against the Chicago Sky. The game will be the first opportunity for fans to see the Lynx, who finished last season by sweeping the Atlanta Dream for the team’s first WNBA championship. Prior to visiting the Sports Pavilion, the Lynx will travel to Connecticut to face the Sun on Thursday, May 10 at 6 p.m. CDT.

“We have enjoyed playing exhibition games at Concordia College and the College of St. Benedict's over the past three years,” said Lynx Executive Vice President Roger Griffith. “Those settings created a fun, exciting atmosphere for the games. The move to the University of Minnesota is an indication of the increased interest surrounding our team. Last year, we literally ran out of space at Concordia, and we are looking forward to a larger, even more enthusiastic crowd for this year's preseason game.”

Minnesota’s game at the Sports Pavilion will be their third on the campus of the University of Minnesota. Previously the Lynx had played at Williams Arena in 2005 and the Sports Pavilion in 2006. In addition to their games in Minneapolis, the Lynx have played preseason games throughout the greater Minnesota area, including games in Mankato (1999), Rochester (2000, 2003), St. Joseph (2009) and St. Paul (2010, 2011).

Tickets for the Lynx preseason game at the Sports Pavilion are currently available for purchase and begin as low as $15. Season ticket holders can purchase tickets for as low as $10, while group rates begin at $8. To purchase tickets, fans can call 612-673-8400 or visit the Lynx website at www.lynxbasketball.com.

The 2011 WNBA Champion Lynx will kick off their title defense with the team's Home Opener on Sunday, May 20 at 11:30 a.m. at Target Center against the Phoenix Mercury on ABC. Lower-level tickets are available for as little as $10 a game for the 17-game home schedule.

Vikings Sign O-Lineman

The Minnesota Vikings have signed veteran free-agent OL Geoff Schwartz. Schwartz comes over from the Carolina Panthers organization where he was a 7th round draft pick in 2008. The California native has appeared in 32 games, making 19 starts, at RT and RG, during his 3 years in the NFC South. Schwartz’s first NFL start came against the Vikings on 12/20/09 during Sunday Night Football. The former Oregon Duck was part of an offensive line in 2009 that allowed DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart to become the 1st ever set of NFL teammates to each rush for more than 1,100 yards in a season. Schwartz started all 16 games in 2010 and helped the Panthers rush for 100+ yards in 8 of their last 9 games.

Minnesota Swarm Sends Three More To The 2012 All-Star Game

BENESCH, CRAWFORD AND MACINTOSH WILL SUIT UP AS WEST RESERVES - The three will join team captain Andrew Suitor on Feb. 25 in Buffalo, New York

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The National Lacrosse League (NLL) today announced that Minnesota Swarm forwards Ryan Benesch and Callum Crawford, along with Swarm rookie T Jordan MacIntosh have been selected as reserves for the West in the 2012 NLL All-Star game.

Benesch and Crawford will be making their second straight appearance to the All-Star Game in 2012. MacIntosh is the first player in Swarm history to be selected to an All-Star Game as a rookie.

For the second year in a row, four Swarm players will head to the All-Star Game. Transition player Andrew Suitor, the recently appointed team captain, was named a starter for the West earlier this week.

“It’s a true testament to everything that we have tried to put together here,” Associate General Manager and Assistant Coach Joe Sullivan said. “In Suitor and MacIntosh, they are real young players in this league, yet they have already created such an impact and they are noticed throughout the league for what they do on the floor. Crawford and Benesch work so hard to distribute their leadership on and off of the floor. I was really happy to see that they got noticed. I don’t think that anybody works harder than they do.”
